Required component for disabling capitalization checks

Quark Inc. In QuarkXPress® 7.31, Quark introduced the ability to check for capitalization, spacing, and duplicate-word errors. The ability to ignore words with numbers and internet and file addresses was also added, but came with a preference that allowed you to turn those features on or off. To many users’ dismay, we did not offer a preference for controlling the capitalization or spacing checks. We responded to the feedback in the QuarkXPress 8.01 update.

The update provides one preference to control capitalization of words within a sentence, sentence capitalization, word spacing, and sentence spacing checks for German languages (including German, Swiss German, German [Reformed], and Swiss German [Reformed]), and one preference for non-German languages. The default setting is to check capitalization and spacing for German languages and to ignore capitalization and spacing checks for non-German languages.

In order to provide some help to those of you that have not been able to upgrade to QuarkXPress 8, we are making this SpellChecker required component available for QuarkXPress 7.5. This release of the required component has been built, but has had limited testing performed. This is why it is available only through Quark Labs.

To install the SpellChecker Required Component on Mac:

1. Click the download button at the top of this page to download and decompress the compressed file.
2. Quit QuarkXPress 7.5.
3. Remove the SpellChecker.qrc file from the Required Components folder found in the root QuarkXPress application folder. (Keep a copy of this file if you wish to revert to the shipping state of the software.)
4. Copy the downloaded SpellChecker.qrc file into the Required Components folder.
5. Launch QuarkXPress 7.5.

To install the SpellChecker Required Component on Windows®:

1. Click the download button at the top of this page to download and decompress the compressed file.
2. Quit QuarkXPress 7.5.
3. Remove the SpellChecker.qrc file from the Required Components folder found in the root QuarkXPress application folder. (Keep a copy of this file if you wish to revert to the shipping state of the software.)
4. Copy the downloaded SpellChecker.qrc file into the Required Components folder.
5. Go to QuarkXPress > Symbols > QRC directory and remove the SpellChecker.pdb file.
6. Copy the downloaded SpellChecker.pdb file into the QRC folder.
7. Launch QuarkXPress 7.5.
